China Earthquake Relief Fundraising Silent Auction

Friday, June 20th, 2008, 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm
at Centre A, 2 West Hastings St.Vancouver

On Monday, May 12, 2008 a major earthquake, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale, jolted southwestern China's Sichuan Province. Hundreds of aftershocks followed in the same area. The quake destroyed thousands buildings in the area, as well as infrastructure like communication networks and electrical towers.

More than 65,000 dead, 23,100 missing, 360,000 injured and 11.3 million people displaced. The earthquake left an estimated five million people homeless. As of May 23rd, The death toll has topped 60000 and may surpass 80000. Many schools were destroyed, including one that had at least 900 students in it. This earthquake is the worst natural disaster to hit China in 30 years.

This silent auction features a diverse and spectacular group of local and international artists, with artworks ranging from photos, drawings, paintings to sculptures. A complete list of artwork can be viewed at after June 15th.

Those wishing to donate money to the earthquake relief fund will be able to do so at the event. 100% of the proceeds will go to Canada Red Cross.
